Head's message..Mr.A.Quinn

What a week last week was with the Year 9 footballers taking the Trevor Gill Trophy with a 2 – 1 win over Bishop Walsh at Villa Park.  This was the unofficial Birmingham Schools Cup Final and the massive support saw a fantastic match.  Two goals from Ben Underhill sealed the silverware, although there was nearly a late scare when Jack Butts kicked off the line to keep the victory intact.  This is the first time we have taken this trophy since 1958 and parents are welcome to come and get pictures taken with their son’s if they want a nice memento for the future.  Also, a special mention for the coach Mr Heathcote, for his skilful use of substitutes and tactical knowledge when the team went 2 – 0 up. Finally, it was lovely to see the team in the new Holland style strip and Governors supported with a commemorative training top, while “Soccerkings” donated a match ball to all of the squad – thank you!

The squad members are:  Luke Bodenham, Jack Butts, Bradley Chandler, Reece Curzey, Connor Etchels, Thomas Grange, Brogan Halpin, Ethan Hanks, Samuel Homer, Dylan Hunt-Trezise, Nathan Lane, Connor Micklewright, Blessing O’Huche, Ben Underhill, Ashley Watson, Kane Wells and Michael Taylor.

The trophy is now on display in the cabinet in Reception.

On a more serious note, the Year 11 examinations’ season officially begins with Year 11 (and Year 10 with some Year 9) undertaking public examinations which will have a considerable impact on their post 16 destinations.  As a school, it is our duty to support and guide our pupils through this inevitable stressful period; revision sessions and support materials are being provided.  Moreover, we have a wealth of experience which can help in these stressful times.  We wish all our pupils the greatest success in the forthcoming examinations.

Meanwhile, the climax to some notable sporting achievements in a variety of disciplines is our Sports Celebrations Evening on Thursday between 7.00-8.30pm.  We are fortunate to have secured the services of Nick Clitheroe, sports presenter for BBC Midlands Today, to present to our pupils, while there will be an array of showcase performances from: Louis Scott, Lewis Brookes, Liam Barrett-Hawkins, Sam Copestake, Jordan Murphy, Jack Gauntlett, Elliott Hartley, Daniel Wells, James Hughes-Tranter, Lewis McPike, Shane Tighe, Jordan Vallender, Jack Biddle, Joseph Kelly, Joshua Weston, Reece Williams, Lewis Roach, Jack Beddows, Jake Birch, Ben Parker, Kian Sandord, Jack Zammit, Kallum Fletcher, Akeem Taylor, Joe Hill, Brandon Lawlor, Ben Brooks, Joseph Clifton.

Finally, if you fancy a quiz on Friday night, please come along to the annual PTFA Quiz night, which starts at 7.00pm.  Entry is £5 per team (maximum 6 team members) with quality prizes on offer.  There is a cash bar available, serving alcoholic and soft drinks.  Of course children are welcome.

Have a nice week.
